TW- words list

last tweaked 28 February 2004

One of the great things about most of these words is that they've got the right sound for catching the ear.

I excluded most forms that were directly off of two- or twi- or Scottish twa(-), because there are so many of them. But in a way, that's ironic, for if we take it back far enough, almost all of these words started in some way with the concept of 'two' in them, and started long ago as compound words starting with 'two'. On this list, I included the common tw- words, and those derived from Old French etu-.

Also, the dw- and thw- words belong here :

If you have a good one to add to this, not counting technical words or two-/twi- prefix, or if a definition needs correction, leave me a note. It may take a while to get to it, what with all the other stuff I'm doing, but I'll get to it eventually. Also, for those of you into word origins, I have a TW- words origin page for you to view.
